”Boy & Boy” (2008)
In a world full of boys, guys and men, two friends have a strange encounter in a mysterious, garden.
The gardener doesn’t quite seem to belong in this world. Who is he? He’s an almost ethereal, mystical being.
Can he be trusted? Do the male codes work?
A series of electronic pieces for Harmonium and boy choir.
Originally, the Harmonium was recorded in a Barock church in my old Alpin home town during the writing process of the Marat / Sade musical the same year. Improvisations that would become the ground for these pieces later called the Boy & Boy Pieces. Specific harmonies and loops where found in this special acoustic environment.
The instrument was not in the great shape so funny noises were taking a special space in the recordings.
Then it got sampled, processed, looped etc... and became very important part of the Boy and Boy sound.
Added to that, boys choirs and sharp electronic drums. On stage, several sound installations took place:
Swedish harpes were installed around. each were tuned according to parts of the music in the play.
As they were mic-ed and mixed into delays, the dancers would pass by them and just give them a little strumming improvising a tonal stage atmosphere.
Another sound installation was this piano skeleton, this metal frame where all the strings are attached. A sort of a Swedish harpe but major size.
This one was wirelessly mic-ed and mounted on wheels so one could jump on it, walk on it, slide on it like a huge resonating skateboard.
A dance / Performance piece worked together with Dorte Olessen.
Idea: Dorte Olessen & Philippe Boix-Vives
Choreography: Dorte Olessen
Set & Costume Design: Malin Casta
Dancers: Rami Jawhari, Christoffer Schieche, Björn Säfsten
Theater: Moderna Dance theater - Stockholm
Premiered: 2007
